Rare 1983 TVR Tasmin Convertible with 4-Speed Manual

1983 TVR Tasmin Convertible

This 1983 TVR Tasmin Convertible is an extremely rare and highly original example just out of long term ownership. Beige with tan leather interior and air conditioning. Showing just 32k miles, its been parked in a garage since 1994 and is ready for straightforward recommissioning at this time. Not currently running, mechanical servicing and cosmetic detailing would go a long way with this car. Its solid, straight, and very honest overall. TVR introduced the wedge shaped Tasmin in 1980, available in both coupe and convertible form, with the convertible allowing for top-up, top-down, and Targa-style configurations. TVR relied on Ford components for wheels, brakes, front suspension, the four-speed manual transmission, and the engine which was a Ford 2.8 Cologne V-6 with Bosch fuel injection. The Tasmin was built in the United Kingdom from 1980 to 1987. It was the first of TVRs Wedge series which marked a radical departure from the swoopy, compact sports cars the company had produced since its inception in 1947. Chassis construction was as it had traditionally been at TVR—a hand-laid fiberglass body wrapped around a stout tubular steel frame. The rare 1983 Tasmin convertible like this particular car, comes with an interior noticeably more luxurious than previous TVRs. Air conditioning and leather seats greet driver and passenger, who face a walnut dashboard. Conceived as an upmarket sports car that would battle the Triumph TR7/TR8 and Lotus Eclat and Elite, the wedge-shaped Tasmin was styled by accomplished former Jaguar and Lotus designer Oliver Winterbottom. One of the great, undiscovered cars on the classic/collector market, offering exclusivity, excellent handling, and lively performance. Though prices have been steadily rising on these cars as of late, you can still acquire a hand-built exotic that is easy to maintain, with decent parts availability, for very little money!
