1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet

Stunning

?1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet

This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet left the factory on November 4, 1970, finished in Grey Blue Metallic (color code 906) over Blue leather. Numbers matching engine per Mercedes-Benz Classic Data Card. Regarded as the marques last hand-built chassis (W111), final year production elevates this cars timeless appeal. The options tag mounted at the front of the car specifies its configuration as a US-delivery example equipped with an outside driver’s rear-view mirror, a Becker Europa radio, and desirable floor shift automatic transmission. Forever a midcentury icon, this open-air touring car embodies the German manufacturers preeminent offerings of the time period.

Service history dating to 1975 shows long-term California ownership and documented mileage corresponding with a current odometer reading of 72k miles. Under the care of the previous owner since 1996, this Cabriolet has received no-expense-spared upkeep with major services and mechanical refurbishment completed between 2014 and 2023.

Today, this Mercedes-Benz showcases superb street presence benefitting from straight closures and panel gaps with numbers-matching, smooth-running powertrain beneath the hood. The interior remains largely original. Detailing on the chrome instrument bezels, Becker Europa radio, air vents, and richly toned wood veneers are in very good condition reflecting preservation-minded care. The steering wheel shows no cracks and features a smooth chrome horn ring and padded centerpiece. The dark blue convertible top is in good condition, very likely replaced some years ago. All told, this automobile’s investment-grade rarity and condition, paired with documented history to offer its next caretaker a well-sorted collection centerpiece.
